First of all, there are two beaches named Playa Hermosa in Costa Rica. One is located in the province of Guanacaste, while the other, where Hermosa Lofts is developed, lies in Puntarenas.

Hermosa Beach is located less than 2 hous from the Juan Santamaría International Airport and 8 minutes from Jacó. They (Jaco and Hermosa) are the closest beach destination from San José and have a well known reputation as the definitive destination for surfing in the central pacific coast. World-class events of surfing are hosted there.

You can see Hermosa and Jaco like two different sisters. The town of Jaco is the commercial center and hub for the surrounding areas. There is a very advanced and complete infrastructure including banks, restaurants, bars, shops, supermarkets, pharmacies, etc…The night life is exciting, with the discos, casinos...the people...

In the other hand, Hermosa beach is a quiet place that gives you the tranquility of a non crowded beach. Is the perfect place for spending a day lounging in the sun with a good book. You could take a day trip to Costa Rica’s most famous national park, the Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio, which is about 45 minutes away or you could visit the Playa Hermosa Wildlife Refuge, which protects the Olive Ridley sea turtles that come to nest there every year. Other places to visit in the zone are La Cangreja National Park and Carara National park.

This area is home to the world class Marriott Los Suenos resort, which has brought the only full service marina south of Mexico prior to Panama.

Keep in mind, if you like to surfing that Jaco offers waves for both beginners and experienced surfers to enjoy, Playa Hermosa is an expert surfer’s beach with waves reaching as high as 13 feet (april-november). Hermosa is recomended only for expert swimmers.
